Wireless earbuds buying checklist

Earbuds look alike in photos, so the spec sheet does most of the work.

Battery life

Listings usually give two numbers: hours per charge and total hours with the case. Noise cancelling on usually lowers both.

Fit

Check how many ear tip sizes are included. A good seal improves bass and noise cancelling.

Compatibility

Some features, such as automatic switching or special codecs, only work with certain phones. Check the maker's notes for your phone.

Water resistance

An IPX4 rating covers sweat and light rain. It does not mean the earbuds can be submerged.
